The staff of No Limits Skydiving helped kick off the baseball season by flying the mascot for the Flying Squirrels baseball team into the park before the game on opening night. “Nutsy” was flown in as a tandem skydive to a safe landing in center field to a cheering crowd.

The No Limits Skydiving staff, as the Aerial Adventure Demos skydiving team, has safely completed hundreds of professional skydiving demonstrations at large events such as NASCAR or as small as county fairs. If you would like to learn more skydiving demonstrations visit the Aerial Adventure Demos site.

If large sporting events trust the safety of their mascot with our staff, you should to. Give us a call and learn how you can make a tandem or AFF skydive with the same personnel who are trusted at America’s largest events.

In a promotion to introduce the Air Guard 400, Richmond International Raceway Track President Doug Fritz accept the challenge to go skydiving for the first time. This was no ordinary jump, Fritz made a tandem skydiving into the infield of the racetrack with the help of instructor and professional skydiver Matt Fitch. Matt is also the owner of No Limits Skydiving and makes his living helping people experience the thrill of skydiving.

This was the first time a track present has ever jumped into his own track. “I tell you what, I think it’s the craziest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life, but hopefully we’ll sell some tickets,” Fritz said.

For nearly 29 years, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation has provided full college scholarship grants, not loans, along with financial aid and educational counseling to surviving children of Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations personnel who were killed in an operational mission or training accident. The Special Operations Warrior Foundation is proud of its ability to maintain a low overhead. In 2008, the administrative overhead was 5.8 percent – meaning 94.2 cent of every dollar goes directly to the programs of supporting special operations personnel and their families.

Bowlin and Gould decided to meld their passions for skydiving with a fund raising event for SWOF. The idea was to do the most tandem jumps in a 24-hour period. Tandem jumps are when two people jump together under a single parachute system. They are attached at four points. They exit together, freefall together and land together.

The goal was to make 150 tandem jumps in 24-hours. That would average out to one tandem jump every 9.6 minutes. This was an astounding goal that would require stamina, fast planes, quick gear changes and a mental temerity to succeed.

Bowlin and Gould contacted the Guinness people and learned all the rules that they must follow to claim a world record. They had to have two people present the entire time to record and monitor the event.
They next prepared the logistics. They obtained the backing of Ted Strong of Strong Enterprises. Strong Enterprises built 6 custom tandem rigs for their adventure. They contacted a public drop zone at Zepherhills, FL. Skydive City worked with them during practice jumps to work out aircraft, exit points, landing places, packing areas, support personnel, food and drinks, bathroom breaks and hundreds of gopher jobs. During the four months prior to the event they did 100 tandems as practice at Skydive City.

Jumping was to commence at 8AM, but bad weather delayed the start time until 6PM on April 14, 2009. This turned out to help the jumps done at night because they were less fatigued.

Thirty staff people helped at all times. Another 30 people volunteered their time and expertise to make the record a huge success.

The very last jump was done from 12,500 ft. They ended the 24-hour period with 103 jumps. That works out to an average of 13.98 minutes per jump. But they had some impressive 6-7 minutes turn times.

No Limits Skydiving uses Tandem Parachutes developed by Strong Enterprises. Strong Enterprises has built skydiving equipment and parachutes for for 25 years. They are well known to be the leader in skydiving technology.

The company is the main supplier of civilian tandem equipment along and is use all around the world. Strong also supplies the United States Military with much of their parachute technology. They are responsible for the military’s emergency parachutes along with their cargo delivery chutes.

Strong Enterprises tandem parachutes were used in a special skydive made over Mt. Everest in 2008. Strong Tandem parachutes where also selected to for a world record tandem skydiving attempt in 2009. The goal was to make the most tandem skydives in 24 hours. If Strong tandem parachutes can be used to set a world record, it’s great equipment.

When you are going to jump from a perfectly good plane always use the best. This is why at No Limits Skydiving we use Strong Enterprises tandem systems.

For many people making that first skydive is a life long dream. I want to give you a few reasons why I think should choose No Limits Skydiving to fulfill that dream.

Skydiving is the most adrenaline packed sport there is. Nothing will excite you more then taking that first step off the plane. After the parachute is open and you take a deep breath, you’ll have a time to realize what you have just accomplished. You’ll have a few minutes to enjoy the view.

Location
The location of the dropzone was specifically chosen to for it’s natural view. The scene under canopy is breathtaking. To the west of the airport there are no man made buildings in sight. The view has all of the natural beauty that Virginia has to offer. Endless miles of rolling green hills and splendor. The sunsets are so amazing that it is hard to take it all in. Being under parachute at No Limits Skydiving, no matter the season, will be a scene you will never forget.

At many dropzones, students can be made to feel like they are being put through an assembly line. At our school you will leave after the jump knowing you just made new friends. As the owner of the school I have over 6,000 jumps with a 100% safety record. I have enjoyed taking a variety of different people on their first skydive. From a person just turning 18, to a 79 year great grandfather last fall. I am personally involved in every jump to making sure you have a fun and safe experience.

Our Staff
All staff members are ex military who have been involved in the skydiving industry for 20 plus years.

No Limits Skydiving manager, Bobby Herman, has been with us for 10 years. He will be there to greet you from the time you arrive, until the time you leave with your jump certificate and video in hand. Bobby makes sure you leave with a big smile on your face.

Facilities
We just built a brand new hanger and student lounge area. We are the only DZ where you can relax in a air conditioned lounge prior to your jump. Bring your family and friends to experience your adventure with you and they have somewhere to relax in comfort. We have a big screen TV in the lounge where you are able to view the video of your skydive. On most Sat nights during the summer we have a bonfires. If you skydived during the weekend feel free to stay for Bobby’s cookout and bonfire. We also offer camping on site. Make a weekend of it if you want. If you have a large group, camp out and make your skydive the next day.

Availability
At No Limits Skydiving we realize people have 40 things going on. Not everybody is free on the weekends. That is why we are open 7 days a week. We are the only Dropzone in the Mid-Atlantic area that is open all week long. All you have to do is call 434-532-6570 and tell us what day you would like to skydive.

Video
No Limits Skydiving is using a new technology that enables us to video your WHOLE skydive. Other schools only video the freefall part of your jump. Our video includes it all!! The getting dressed, plane ride, freefall and the most important part, the parachute ride down. Our video’s capture the ENTIRE parachute ride down. Our videos are 8 to 10 min, where other places are only 4 minutes. Your parachute ride is around 5 min and there is nothing like seeing your smile with the canopy over your head. Makes for a great video!!

I hope I have given you some reasons why I think you should choose us to be a part of your first skydive. If you have any questions please call anytime at 434-532-6570. Either I, or Bobby will answer the phone.

Thank you and hope to talk to you soon.
- Matthew Fitch, Owner

Skydivers – Most people say we’re crazy. Some say we have a death wish. Psychologists say people with an inclination to take high risks are a necessary part of the continuation of our species.

We are people from all walks of life: students, blue-collar workers, engineers, doctors, nurses, you name it. What we have in common is an affinity for a high-risk sport, skydiving. Some also participate in other sports like scuba diving, kayaking, rock climbing, or skiing. There is a sense of camaraderie among us, a sense that we understand a greater truth that is missed by most people.

Mentally, it is an incredibly refreshing break from “society”. Skydiving is a super stress reliever. When you are skydiving, you focus on that skydive and nothing else. This keeps away all the distractions of life. No room for stray thoughts or worries here. The intense focus and the pump of adrenaline leave you feeling mentally and physically cleansed.

And yes, the adrenaline is no doubt a part of it. Your body responds to the rush of adrenaline, bringing with it a sense of excitement and a surge of energy. Our human bodies are made to produce adrenaline as a survival mechanism, and it is being regarded more and more as a necessary part of the human experience and overall health. Something any skydiver could have already told you a long time ago.

Stepping out the door of a flying airplane has other benefits too. It makes you mentally tough. It takes a lot of mind control to go against what you have been taught about danger since you were a child, get hold of your thoughts, and realize that yes, it is okay to step out that door. You acquire an increased awareness of all that is around you. You develop a confidence in yourself and a quick response as events happen around you. The sense of accomplishment is incredible. Knowing you met your fear, took control, and pushed yourself to take that step flows over into other parts of your life.

When I did my first skydive, a group of us from work went. I organized the outing. Everyone had a blast but I was the only person who did more than one jump. Later, in talking with one of the guys in the group, he said to me – I know that whatever I face in life, I can remember that I went up in that plane and did a skydive. If I can summon the courage to do that, I can do anything. It was great.

Okay, so enough of the psychobabble mumbo jumbo. What is the sensation? When you step out the door of a flying airplane you are in freefall until the parachute is deployed. Most skydives are done from around 10,000 ft. to 14,000 ft., providing the skydiver anywhere from 30 seconds to 70 seconds of freefall time. Stick your arm out the window of a car doing 60 mph then imagine your whole body out there going twice as fast – then you start to get a little of the idea of what skydiving feels like.

No one I’ve ever talked to has been able to put into words the sensation of skydiving. Even asking first time jumpers – is there any way to describe what you just did – only elicits a wide-eyed, grinning, no way.

Freefall is such a stupendous sense of freedom. You are flying through the air, able to move your body in 3D. You can fly forward, back-up, move sideways, speed up how fast you are falling and slow down how fast you are falling. Yes, you are continually falling. But during that time you are definitely flying your body. You can do flips and twists. You can stand on your feet or stand on your head. There are absolutely no limits as to which direction you can move your body.

And let there be no doubt – there is not a plane around that can give you the same view. What an awesome sight to view 360 degrees around you – the sky, the horizon, the incredible beauty of the world, right there for you to see with no obstructions. To feel you are a part of that sky.

The parachute flies like a glider, responding to the pilot’s input and slicing you through the sky. It can be flown slowly and smoothly or fast and wild. But either way, with correct pilot input, it will bring you safely and softly to a landing on the earth.

Why do we skydive? Who will ever understand the beauty, the freedom, the rush but someone who has been there? Truly, the sky is our playground.

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to thank the staff of No Limits Skydiving for an unforgettable skydiving experience! As a first-time skydiver, I was full of both expectations – and nerves. My nerves were quickly calmed after discovering my tandem instructor has completed thousands of tandem jumps in his career – all accident-free! It was not long before I was completing a dream by jumping out of a plane, and all expectations were exceeded! The plane ride to altitude was my worst fear, but this unique staff kept me engaged, assured and entertained the entire time. The free-fall was a rush I will never forget; as you fall you can watch the skyline disappear!! The parachute ride to the ground proved to be my favorite feature of the skydive; a surreal contrast to the unbelievable free-fall, the canopy ride was a chance to take in both your completed accomplishment, and the most beautiful panoramic views you will ever see!!!! The staff is in large part responsible for making this once-in-a-lifetime experience safe, exciting, and a sheer thrill from start to finish. After convincing some friends, I cannot wait to return for my second jump!

Matt, thank you so much for the skydive! Our whole group had a great time and many of us are coming back to do this again. It’s all we have talked about since the weekend, and I still have that rush, days later. Bobby had us laughing so much the whole time on the ground while getting ready for the jump, that when it came time to actually go, I really wasn’t nervous! Thanks again, and see you again soon. Blue Skies.

Every now and then something comes along to remind us to appreciate life and how quickly it can be gone. In 2006, Tim McGraw came out with the song “Live Like You’re Dying.” The song captured a feeling that many people share about life being too short. In the song, it talks about going skydiving. Skydiving has always been the face of living life fully because today could be your last.

Skydiving is one of those rocking chair moments. When you’re retired and sitting in your rocking chair remembering all the really exciting things you’ve done in your life, skydiving will be on the list! Even if you only make one skydive in your life, you will remember that day as if it was yesterday. As anyone who’s been skydiving will tell you, you have to do it to understand the feeling of jumping from an airplane, free falling, and flying a parachute to the ground.

A survivor with inoperable cancer wrote this:
I am motivated by two signs in my home, a commonly available one says, “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” It’s on my living room wall and I see it only after I have my morning tea beneath a sign on my kitchen cabinet that admonishes, “Life is not about going to the grave in a beautiful, well preserved body, but by sliding in sideways, totally worn out, and proclaiming, “WOW, what a ride!!”

This thought is why people make a skydive. “Live Like You’re Dying” and you’ll live a full life with no regrets.
